William Edward Fichtner was born on 27th November 1956 in East Meadow, New York and grew up in Buffalo, New York. At 6′ 1″, William is the only boy out of five siblings. His youngest sister, Pam, works for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is the Western New York Program Director. One sister is a major in the United States Air Force and another is a high school art teacher.
William has two children, one with his ex-wife Betsy Aidem, whom he divorced in 1996, and one with his present wife, Kymberly Kalil, whom he married on 25th July 1998.
William graduated from Maryvale High School in Cheektowaga, New York in 1974 and then went onto higher education, and in 1978 graduated from from State University of New York at Brockport with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. He was going to go into law enforcement – William even has qualifications to be a police officer – when at university William discovered acting. He needed to take a liberal arts course, so he took acting classes and never looked back.
After graduating from SUNY, William entered the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and in 1987, landed his first role as Josh Snyder in As The World Turns, playing a troubled man who had years before committed a rape that resulted in a child.
William Fichtner has been in a variety of productions, and even was the voice of Ken Rosenberg in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Some of the big films that Fichtner has starred in include: Crash, Armageddon, Black Hawk Down, and he has starred alongside big names such as Demi Moore, Robert De Niro and George Clooney.
In fact, George Clooney pulled a prank on William. On the set of “The Perfect Storm”: Clooney got a member of the prop department to replace William’s breath mints with pieces of chalk.
