The episode begins with T-Bag being tortured by Geary and Bellick in Susan Hollander’s house when he refuses to tell him where he hid the money.
A big red ‘X’ is drawn across Lincoln’s face when he is arrested with LJ. The FBI is celebrating, but they shouldn’t get too happy. Mr. Kim isn’t happy either when Mahone seems to be MIA.
On their way to the police station, a large black van smashes into the police car from behind and causes them to hit a tree. The police officers are knocked out and Lincoln and LJ manage to escape from the police car, when people start spilling out of the van and grab them. Linc tries to resist but is then told that they are with his father and are there to help.
Kellerman contacts Mahone and tells him that they have caught Burrows, but Mahone has his own agenda. He is in New Mexico and he is going to get Scofield.
Sara is in Sundown Hotel, Gila, New Mexico and is ready to meet Michael. Her thoughts now are with her father, who she saw hanging dead in his study not long ago. She then remembers the large key with the crown motif she found with him and finds it in her bag and attaches it with a large bunch of keys she already has.
Lincoln and LJ arrive in Colorado, at what seems to be Aldo Burrows’ hideout. Lincoln is anxious, and Jane tries to reassure him of their safety. Lincoln isn’t buying it but Jane reminds him that he really doesn’t have a choice.
Mahone is searching all the motels and hotels in New Mexico for Michael and Sara, but so far has not succeeded.
Sara is still waiting for Michael at Sundown Hotel when she receives a fax: “One hour. 16781 Butterfield Road.”
Sucre’s car breaks down in Dinosaur, Nebraska and he leaves it and runs to call Maricruz. Sucre desperately tries to persuade a reluctant Teresa to get Maricruz to call him when she comes to pick her up.
Sara goes to Butterfield Road and waits for Michael for arrive. Their reunion seems rather cold as neither knows what to say to each other. Sara is disappointed to find out that Michael’s plan to protect her consisted of her running away with them to Panama. Meanwhile, Mahone finds Sundown Hotel and gets a copy of the fax. Michael makes clear to Sara that he regrets ruining her life and just as Sara starts to warm up to him, Mahone turns up. Sara gets into Michael’s car and Michael takes a risk and starts accelerating towards Mahone, and then swerves at the last second in an attempt to lose him. However, Mahone regains control and cause Michael to crash. Michael and Sara get out of their ruined car and try to hide in the abandoned building their car crashed into, and Mahone follows them.
Bellick and Geary are still torturing T-Bag to try and find out where he hid the 5 million, in an attempted escape, the key to the locker where the money is flung across the room. All three scrabble to get the key, but T-Bag gets it first and swallows it. Bellick and Geary tape T-Bag to the toilet and feed him random disgusting things and wait for the key to come out the other end.
Sucre is waiting by the pay phone for Maricruz’s call, but unluckily for him, when she calls, a policeman comes near and he can’t answer the phone.
Lincoln and LJ are still waiting for the arrival of Aldo, and Lincoln explains the whole conspiracy and why he was set up to LJ. Jane then enters and says that Aldo will be here any second, and lets slip that he hasn’t seen Michael since Michael was 10 years old. Lincoln tries to get away when he thinks that this is all a set up, Michael never met your grandfather he tells LJ. But then Aldo does arrive.
Michael and Sara are still trying to get away from Mahone, when Michael tells Sara to go before him. Mahone enters the building with his gun ready and catches a glimpse of Sara. To get his attention away from her, Michael drops a metal rod near him to catch Mahone’s attention. Mahone takes the bait and starts going towards the direction of the sound.
Kellerman is in Arizona at the site of the crash, and he calls Kim to give him an update. Kim seems to want him out of the way and tells him to pursue Sara Tancredi instead.
Sara’s way to the outside is clear with Mahone distracted, and runs to his car and renders it useless. Meanwhile, Michael is still avoiding Mahone but feels that he has reached a dead end; he catches his arm on a sharp object and muffles a scream of pain. He finds a cage and decides to make use of it, and turns on propane gas.
Bellick and Geary are dreaming of fast cars and boats and when T-Bag starts moaning. The key is out. The pair tie T-Bag to the radiator and call 911 and leave him there, ignoring his pleas.
Mahone unknowingly walks into the cage looking for Michael, and doesn’t realize it until it’s too late and Michael locks him in. Mahone can’t shoot him either, the slightest spark will set off the propane gas that is filling the room and burn them both alive. Michael tries to prick Mahone’s conscience by telling him that he’s on the wrong side. He then tells him to stop, because when you will get close, Michael says, I will win every time. Mahone points out the difference between him and Michael, Michael’s weakness. He can’t kill, and Mahone can. Michael is shaken when Mahone says, “Whether it’s today in Gila, or tomorrow in Albuquerque or two months from now in Panama, I will get you.” And Mahone is left alone in the cage. Sara arrives in her car and goes back to the hotel with Michael after picking up some supplies.
Geary and Bellick find the money in the locker, but Geary double-crosses Bellick and knocks him out and takes all of the money.
Sucre calls Teresa and Maricruz and leaves a distressing message telling her that he couldn’t pick up the phone before, and tells her about his Aunt Dallas who lives outside Mexico City in the mountains, and that he’ll be there next week at the airport when she gets home. He tells her that he can make it work and pulls out the paper with bolshoi booze written on it from Michael. Hector finds out that Maricruz went to Mexico on what was meant to be their honeymoon.
Sara is being Michael’s doctor again as she takes care of his wound, and she asks him if he actually enjoys the excitement of being on the run, and that it may be like chasing a high. “I should know better by now” Sara says. Michael promises her that it won’t always be like this, “They can’t chase us forever.” He asks her to wait just one more day, and they will cross the border and it will all be over. Sara is skeptical and seems to be having second thoughts and Michael senses this and tells her that he’s glad that she came before going into the shower.
Aldo meets LJ for the first time, and they seem genuinely happy to meet each other but Lincoln is still cold towards his father. Lincoln turns down his father’s offer of a safe place and says that they’re meeting up with Michael and going to Panama and won’t let his father get involved. Aldo tells him that he doesn’t need to run, and that they just need time to get hold of some new evidence. Leon, who is working for Aldo, turns out to be a double agent when he contacts Kim and tells him that he has all three Burrows’ and Kim, tells him to deal with them.
T-Bag is still tied to the radiator and is getting desperate as he starts to hear sirens.
Michael gets out of the shower and gets a surprise as he finds no Sara. She left him a note saying “this time I know better. I’m sorry” and Michael is clearly upset. Sara is outside sitting in her car when she changes her mind and decides to go back to Michael. However, as soon as she gets out she gets a nasty shock and she is faced with her friend “Lance” holding a gun to her face.
